We Love Control4

Light Proxy · $49 per project

The X4 slider widget, for any light.

On Control4 X4 many lights only get an on and off toggle on the home and room screens, and a scene gets no slider at all. Light Proxy stands in for a light, a group of lights, or a whole scene, and gets the light widget with the brightness slider. Tick the lights or pick the scene in Properties, add it to the screen, done.

Free for 30 days on every controller. No account needed to try.

One Light Proxy favourited to the room dims three pendants from the tile.

1 choice to make

Lights or a lighting scene. Tick the lights, or pick the scene. Everything else is optional.

Slider on the home and room screens

It is a dimmer speaking the current brightness protocol, which is what X4 gives its light widget to.

Follows the real lights

Its level is read from the lights' own reports, so a change from a keypad or programming shows at once.

What it replaces

What a programmer would build in Composer for this, and what the driver does instead.

A slider on the home screen
By hand:Not possible: the light's own widget only toggles.
Add the Light Proxy to the screen instead. Its widget has the slider.
Dim several lights together
By hand:A scene per level, or a virtual dimmer with programming, variables and event handlers for every light.
Tick the lights. The slider sets them all to one level; the tile shows the brightest.
Dim a scene
By hand:Not possible: a scene is on or off, and a dimmer version means a second scene for every level.
Pick the scene. The slider scales it: every light at that share of its scene level, 100% is the scene as designed.
Keep the tile honest
By hand:More programming, mirroring each light's level back to the virtual device.
Automatic: the level comes from the lights' own variables.
Ramp smoothly
By hand:Ramp-to-level commands per light, with the time typed into each.
The ramp time from the slider is forwarded to every light and the tile animates it.
Keypads and scenes
By hand:A separate keypad binding and scene entry per light.
Bind buttons to the proxy and add it to scenes like any dimmer.

Where it earns its place

One driver, added once per favourite. Each copy stands in for the lights you tick.

Widget with a slider

Any load whose own widget only toggles on the X4 home and room screens.

Group dimmer

Three pendants over the island, dimmed as one. The slider sets every light; the tile shows the brightest.

Keypad target

Bind keypad buttons to it like any dimmer: a click turns the group on, off or over.

Scene dimmer

Pick an Advanced Lighting scene and the slider scales it: 100% is the scene as designed, lower is every light at that share of its level.

Kitchen Pendants

Lights
Pendant 1, Pendant 2, Pendant 3

Tap: The tile switches all three; the slider sets them to one level with a smooth ramp.

Lit while the tile shows the brightest pendant, and a pendant changed from its own keypad updates it at once.

Reading Lamp

Reading Lamp

Tap: On and off go to the lamp's own preset; the slider dims it.

Lit while it mirrors the lamp exactly.

Movie Night

A whole scene on one slider
Lighting Scene

Tap: The tile activates the scene as designed; the slider scales it, so half is every light at half its scene level.

Lit while the tile shows how far up the scene is, from the lights' own reports; off turns the scene's lights off.

Porch and Path

Tap: Commands go out one light at a time, so a single-radio bridge keeps up.

Lit while the tile follows the brightest light.

Everything it does

  • The X4 light widget with the brightness slider, for loads whose own widget only switches on and off.
  • One light, a group, or an Advanced Lighting scene: the slider sets every light to the same level, or scales the scene; on and off let each light use its own preset.
  • Follows the lights: the tile shows the highest reported level, and a change made from a keypad or by programming shows at once.
  • Ramps as asked: a brightness with a ramp time is forwarded with that time, and the tile animates the ramp.
  • A scene member and a keypad target like any dimmer: a click on a bound button turns the group on, off or over.
  • Properties only: choose Lights or Lighting Scene under Stands In For, tick the lights or pick the scene, click Set. Optional spacing between commands for RF bridges.
  • The widget's preset row works as brightness steps: the left circle is off, the right is full, the ones between are evenly spaced. The row is drawn by X4 for every light with a slider; its highlight follows colour and is not driven by the proxy.

Set-up

  1. 1Add the driver to the room and rename it to what the customer should see.
  2. 2In Properties, set Stands In For to Lights and tick the light or lights, or set it to Lighting Scene and pick the scene, then click Set.
  3. 3Add it to the home or room screen in the Control4 app, or bind keypad buttons to it.

Add the driver in Composer Pro and set it up from Properties. Free for 30 days on that controller, no account needed.

2

Create a project

Apply for a free dealer account, add the customer's project, and type its short code into the driver. The controller links itself on the next check-in.
